October 28, 2024
We’re excited to announce that FAIME will be attending the 2024 Western Mining Action Network (WMAN) Biennial Conference this November 13-17 in Montreal, Canada! Themed “Mining Justice in the Climate Crisis” (Justice minée en temps de crise climatique), this year’s conference will focus on cross-cultural knowledge sharing, elevating Indigenous voices, leadership development, and training in environmental advocacy and democratic organizing.

Come Find Us at the Community Resource Area
FAIME will be hosting a booth in the Community Resource Area, where attendees can meet our team and learn about our work. We’ll be sharing information on how FAIME supports mining-affected communities by connecting them with credible, competent, and trustworthy experts.

What’s Happening at WMAN 2024?
The conference will convene 150-200 people from mining-affected communities and allies working in legal aid, scientific support, and environmental NGOs. With support from Coalition Québec meilleure mine (Quebec Coalition for a better mining framework), the conference aims to increase awareness of mining in Quebec and its impact on local communities. It will address the social and environmental impacts of mining across the US and Canada, providing a platform for communities affected by mining and the allies working with them.

Preliminary Schedule:
~ Tuesday, November 12: Indigenous Caucus travel day
~ Wednesday, November 13: Indigenous Caucus meeting
~ Thursday, November 14: Conference plenaries/workshops/panels
